I spent two years at Thoughtful AI across three different roles, riding the company from early-stage RPA shop to focused healthcare automation platform. When I joined in September 2023, the company was still searching for product-market fit. When I left in September 2025, it had merged into a larger healthcare automation company and I was stepping into a Director-level role.
The journey covered solutions architecture, customer engineering, technical product management, and team leadership, with each transition building on the last. I developed deep expertise in healthcare revenue cycle management, built AI-augmented automation systems, and learned hard lessons about what happens when a company scales faster than its operational processes.
PE-Backed Customer Work
A meaningful share of Thoughtful's customer base was PE-backed healthcare providers. Private equity ownership shaped how those buyers evaluated and purchased AI automation — cost reduction, FTE displacement, and payback period mattered more than technical sophistication. I learned to structure pre-sales conversations around those metrics specifically.
The most significant example was Transformations Care Network, a behavioral health provider across five states backed by Shore Capital Partners. They came to us because their staffing couldn't keep up with eligibility and benefits verification volume as Shore Capital pushed rapid state-by-state expansion. I was the solo lead on the build: an eligibility verification agent covering 80–90% of their benefits checks by go-live. One of the few builds we delivered profitably end-to-end.
The Shore Capital engagement didn't end at TCN. We structured referral credits into the contract, and by the time the project wrapped I was in late-stage pre-sales discussions with several other Shore Capital portfolio companies. It was an early lesson in how PE firms think about portfolio-wide adoption: once one company proves the unit economics, the PE firm becomes a distribution channel for the rest of the portfolio.
